Away Day Guide – Southampton
For any Fulham fans making the journey to Southampton (a), here is your Trust away day guide for St. Mary’s Stadium.
GETTING TO ST. MARY’S STADIUM
BY CAR
From the M3 take the A33 into Southampton. Stay on the A33 until you reach the junction with the A3024 Northam Road and turn left onto this road towards Northam. Then turn right onto the B3038, Britannia Road until you reach the ground
There is very little parking near to the ground. You can park in the city centre and walk to the stadium, which takes between 15 and 20 minutes, with the best bet being the NCP car park in the city centre. Alternatively, supporters can park at the marina – at the Ocean Village car park (which costs £1 per hour, but is free after 6pm) and walk around ten minutes to the stadium. Both of these car parks are popular with match going supporters, which means there can be significant delays after the game. There is also a car park at Southampton Central railway station.
BY TRAIN
St. Mary’s Stadium is around a mile and a half from Southampton Central railway station – about half an hour’s walk.
Turn left out of the station and head up Western Esplanade, which becomes Civic Centre Road. Stay on Civic Centre Road and walk between the Civic Centre and the Marlands Shopping Centre. Head over the crossroads into New Road and follow this road across a park and past a college until you reach a complex road junction with a number of traffic lights. Cross Kings Way into Northam Road and follow this road for quarter of a mile until you reach the ground on your right. The route is well-signposted.
AWAY PUBS
There aren’t a lot of pubs within close walking distance of St. Mary’s. The closest establishment is Browns (70 Millbank Street, Southampton, SO14 5QN), which welcomes both home and away fans. The pub screens live sport on their big screens and has a reasonably priced food menu and is a family-friendly venue.
In the Ocean Village marina, a popular pub in the past has been the Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis (Canute Road, Pavilion, Southampton, SO14 3JS), which offers a wide array of excellent beers, with friendly staff and welcomes both home and away supporters.
There are also a number of pubs in the centre of Southampton. Popular venues for visiting fans have been Yates Wine Lodge (113 -117 Above Bar Street, Southampton, SO14 7FH) and the Slug & Lettuce (103–105 Above Bar Street, Southampton, SO14 7FG).
There are also a couple of excellent real ale options, although these are twenty minutes’ walk away from St. Mary’s Stadium in the opposite direction. If you enjoy real ale, The Rockstone (63 Onslow Road, Bevois Valley, Southampton, SO14 0JL) and the Guide Dog (38 Earls Road, Southampton, SO14 6SF) are both listed in the CAMRA good beer guide.
Alternatively, a selection of alcohol is available inside St. Mary’s Stadium.
